Tom Hamilton bass guitarist of Aerosmith talks about his favourite basses

Tom Hamilton of Aerosmith has used alot of basses through the years. He talks about some of his new and old basses with a brief story of each one to go with it.

Bass 1: Parker Fly Bass - Tom descibes this bass as a new high tech bass with alot of science to make it. Tom was presented this in 2003, he was the presented the first Parker Fly bass of the production line with serial number 0001. Heres Parker Guitar article about it Tom Hamilton Parker Fly bass

Bass 2: Tompkins guitars bass - Custom made bass from Australia specially made for Tom Hamilton. The maker of the bass guitar saw Tom holding one of the basses he made on the Honkin on Bobo album cover with I assume is the bass in the pictu

Bass 3: Tom Hamiltons favourite bass. Not sure what bass this is I think its one of his Sadowsky basses but I'm not sure. If anyones got more info on this let me know.

Tom Hamilton of Aerosmith talks about the gear they use in the studio.

The first gear he talks about is the porch board. You tap your foot on this board and the sound is amplified, allowing you to use your foot as a kind of bass drum to keep in time.

Bumblefoot Ron Thal gear video - Vigier guitars

Bumblefoot from Guns N' Roses plays Vigier guitars. He tells us what he loves about the guitar's and gives us a demo.

The first guitar he shows us is the Vigier GV:
The Vigier GV is a single cutaway guitar, it's got two humbuckers but has a 5 way switch selector. The guitar comes with Dimarzio PAF Pro pickups and alder body. According to Bumblefoot it sounds great and the best guitar Vigier has come out with.

The second guitar is Vigier's Bumblefoots Signature guitar
The Bumblefoot Vigier signature guitar is a modified version of the Excaliber guitar. The pickups and pickup selector is customised to Bumblefoots tasts getting nasty gritty tones, getting thicker single coil characteristics. It also has a small how for Bumblefoots thimble.

The Gibson Darkfire seems to be building a fan base from guitar heroes. Billy Morrison has already given his official endorsement, now Bumblefoot for Guns N' Roses is giving his praises to the Darkfire.

Heres some of the Darkfires features:

Headstock:
- Gibson Darkfire vintage Traditional Flowerpot headstock inlay from the 1920's. With a red Darkfire truss rod cover.
- Upgraded Powerhead tuners, for self tuning from the Master Control Knob.

Nut:
- Self lubricating teflon nut.

Neck:
- Classic Block inlays made of acrylic and carbon fibre. This design was used in Gibson 335's from the early 1960's.

Pickups
- New Gibson P90H pickups at the bridge, to give that classic single coil sound but designed to stop the hum
- BurstBucker 3 pickups
- Piezo bridge pickup

One of the most unique features of the Darkfire guitar is its Chameleon Tone Technology which allows the guitar to change its tone to many classic sounds even to make it Telecaster or Strat like.
Check this clip of Bumblefoot playing an instrumental of Better from the new Gun N' Roses Chinese democracy album, the guitar has that single coil strat quality to it. Truly amazing.

Tom Morello is the guitarist from Rage Against the Machines and Audioslave. Some say he's the next Hendrix with his unique sound and funky riffs.

Edge guitar gear from U2 - guitars part 2

The next part of Edge from U2's interview with the BBC about his guitars, pedals and gear. Edge had a record amount of using 18 different guitars during one show, Edge loves his gear. He demonstrates some riffs with his Rickenbacker and some effects to give a funky wah sound. Edge also demonstrates his "infinite" guitar, where he uses a sustainer, combined with his effects he makes a spacey violin type tone.

Some guitars in Edge's collection featured are a Gibson Les Paul Goldtop with P90s, Rickenbackers, Strats, Gretsch White Falcon, and a Line 6 guitar.

Edge from U2 talks about his guitar gear. He's not famous for his technical ability but he comes of with good sounds and rhythm play with his guitars. Edge from U2 the expert in effects.

This video is another from the BBC The Story of the Guitar series. Edge talks about his first guitar a Gibson Explorer. When he was first looking to buy a guitar he wanted a Gibson Les Paul but couldn't afford it, when he got to the guitar shop the shop keeper showed him the Gibson Explorer and he went for it for its unusal shape. The Gibson Explorer has since been his trademark guitar and has a few stories on tour to go with it.

David Gilmour Gear and Guitar

David Gilmour from Pink Floyd talks about his guitar sound and gear. His classic Fender Stratocaster sound, warm, hollow, clean sound set the atmosphere with Pink Floyd records.
David Gilmours signature Fender Black Stratocaster with maple neck and with pickup covers has become an icon, and has recently been copied and released by Fender custom shop. David Gilmour like many others dreamed of playing a Stratocaster because of the man that made it sound so good, Hank Marvin.

David Gilmour talks about his distortion sound, what he wants from it and how he uses it live. This interview is from a series of BBC documentaries about the guitar, theres a few more clips of some guitar legends talking about why they love guitars including Hank Marvin and Mark Knoplfer. Herman Li from Dragon force has been using Ibanez guitars for 13 years, he first got a Ibanez S Prestige in 1995 and has been playing the same guitar ever since. He loves the S-R bridge, giving it as much abuse he can and it still holds up. The thin body of the Ibanez S Prestige still gives a fat tone for a thin bodied guitar and the proof s in the Dragonforce records. The clip also features Herman Li showing off some killer licks.
