Eric Sardinas guitar gear is usually simple, a resonator guitar, and a slide. All other guitar gear inbetween wouldn't make a difference. Eric Sardinas is one of the coolest current blues players out there playing a resonator guitar usually a Dobro and a slide, and he's made it suit his image and sound. He also has a signature guitar model Washburn out. His new signature is a Gibson Dobro, wood bodied, single cone resonator.
Check out his amazing playing in the video below: (if you cannot see the video please refresh the page)
I first saw Eric Sardinas live at a Steve Vai concert, I didn't know who he was then and to be honest thought he sounded terrible, not his playing but his live sound, it sounded too messy and loud, and you couldn't hear what he was playing. After listen to clearer versions his his music I became a fan. Eric Sardinas sound with his guitar gear and Resonator guitar is one of the most exciting players I've heard playing the blues. His image is also what you would expect, a raw American blooded white blues player from the country.

The 1959 Gibson Les Paul featured in the previous post showed it's great tone and why vintage guitars can't be matched. Due to my recent fascination and search for clips of the 1959 Gibson Les Paul, I thought I'd post another cool video I've seen.
This clip features famous guitarists including Slash and Billy Gibbons talking about why they love the 1959 Les Paul, everyone loves it, enjoy the video.
The 1959 Gibson Les Paul is known as the holy grail of electric guitars by guitar lovers and collectors, they are worth a fortune, and you'll be lucky to find one for sale. This guitar made countless guitar heroes famous...(continued after the video)
The Tone Why is the 1959 Gibson Les Paul so valuable, it's due to one word - TONE. Vintage guitars always have their own character to them but the 1959 Gibson Les Paul is something else, Les Pauls already have the reputation for being sustain monsters giving a rich fat tone, and a vintage Les Paul will give that and more. The pickups fitted on the 1959 are also one of the sweetest sounding pickups ever made. Gibson are constantly trying to recapture the tone and specs of the 1959, that's why every year there seems to be a new 1959 VOS reissue released.
Tone is a very subtle and subjective thing, but every guitarist that cares about how their guitar sound knows about it. One thing about a vintage guitar is the wood has aged and has adjusted to the vibrations of strings, this is what gives it more tone and sustain. I found a video from guitar world with Paul Riario playing Larry Dimarzio's all orginal 1959 Gibson Les Paul and comparing it with his 2002 Gibson Les Paul Historic reissue. The difference is, to say the least, noticable, so noticable infact that I had to share it with everyone. He plays it acoustically first and you can here the sustain and warmth, not many reviewers do this, I think all guitar reviews/comparisions should follow this example whether it's an acoustic guitar or not, to hear what the guitar sounds like unplugged is essential.
Noel Gallagher announced the split up of Oasis on 29th of August 2009 after Liam broke Noel's guitar after an argument. Oasis have a reputation for arguments between the two brothers, I've seen numerous interviews of Noel and Liam saying they will never split. But it seems like it's finally happened.
I've been trying to find out which guitar Liam smashed up. I know if someone smashed up one of my favourite guitars I would be angry too. Noel Gallagher over the years has owned and made famous various guitars. His iconic union jack Epiphone Sheraton caught peoples eye and Epiphone even made a signature model of it. His acoustic of choice seems to be his Gibson J200, I remember when I saw a video of Noel playing Masterplan with that guitar, I wanted one so much! The Gibson ES 335 custom with a bigsbythat Noel's been playing recently, seen in the clip below, that guitar looks gorgeous. If it was any of these guitar no wonder Noel went crazy and left the band.
I've been searching all over the net and can't find out which guitar was smashed up, anyone got any links or knows which one? The only other clue I've heard is that it was a Gretsch, I'd love to see a picture of that Gretsch, what kind of Gretsch has Noel been playing recently?
If it really is the end of Oasis, then it's the end of the best british rock band in recent years, Oasis was one of the first bands I loved, and "Don't Look Back in Anger" was the first guitar solo I learnt. What will happen now? Maybe Noel will go on to do a solo album and Liam Gallagher will continue with Oasis. Well, thats a lesson for you singers out there, don't smash up the guitarist guitar unless you have permission, especially if it's a 1959 Gibson Les Paul, you'll have every guitarist in the world out for your blood.
Billy Gibsons talks about his first guitar, a Gibson Melody Maker, and his Fender and Gibson years. The most famous Gibson that Billy owns is probably his 1959 Gibson Les Paul "Pearly Gates", he tells the story of how he got it and how it got it's name. Gibson Custom shop recently replicated and reissue the iconic Les Paul played by Billy Gibbons. They done the standard 50 exact copies which cost a fortune, then an aged copy, then a standard VOS version.
Billy Gibbons also plays a Firebird like Gretsch, I'm still trying to find his comments on this guitar.
A great interview by Guitar Universe with Billy Gibbons from ZZ Top. Some interviewers are over excited fans, or try to get too technical, but this interview is spot on, asking simple questions, the things we wanna know. Thanks for the video.
One of the most exciting acoustics to enter the under $500 category is the Godin 5th Avenue. I played it a few times in guitar shops and it's amazing. The guitar is a traditional artchtop guitar with f-holes. Godin aimed to make a vintage style archtop acoustic, with a vintage sound, tone, feel and look, and at a affordable price, and they achieved it. Godin have really put a foot in the market for acoustic archtops now, players now have a decent archtop to purchase rather than drooling over Gibson L-50's all their life while playing a cheap alternative. Rolling from the success of the 5th Avnue, Godin then released the Godin 5th avenue kingpin, which is has a pickup with it.
The Godin 5th avenue gives all that you would expect, a warm tone, from the Canadian Cherry wood, idea for mellow jazz chords.
I found a clip on youtube of Steve Groves from http://www.theguitarsummit.com/ demoing the guitar. He really captures the Godin 5th avenues tone and feel with his version of "Nightingale Sang Berkely Square". and the enjoyment on his face when playing is priceless. This guitar is amazing.
Here's another clip at NAMM 2008, from premier guitar, with Robert Godin, he talks about how he designed the 5th Avenue and how he designed it.
I've bought www.guitarheroesgear.com. All the blogger links will be redirected to the new address soon.
Hopefully, my time obsessing on youtube guitar videos has been useful to somebody, and I've made it easier for people to find the footage they want of the heroes of guitar talking about their gear. I'll continue to develop this site and find more videos for everybody. Maybe one day this blog will become a common place for guitarist and fans.
Yngwie Malmsteen the shredding king, this video clip looks like it was back in the 90's in London's famous guitar street, Denmark Street London in Andy's guitars. The start of the clip has Yngwie talking about music and singers he's worked with etc, if you skip to around 2 minutes 40 seconds you'll see him buy a vintage guitar for £3500, which was alot in those days, he test out the vintage Fender Stratocaster 1963Fiesta Red, plays a few licks, and tries to haggle. The seller probably knows it's Yngwie Malsteen buying soo doesn't budge in his price. You'll see how Yngwie respects the guitar like a true guitar rock n' roll legend would do at the end of the clip when you see how he carefull places it in his car after he leaves.
Enjoy the clip (if you cannot see the video please refresh the page)
Brian Setzer another Gretsch man, he's has his Gretsch since he was 17 years old, I know how it feels to pick up and look at the guitar you've been playing for years and realise it's a masterpiece. Brian Setzer's style and tone really suits and comes from his Gretsch, Gretsch's definietely have something unique about them making you play a certain way and feel a certain type of music. Brian Setzer also has a signature Gretsch released to everybody that wants his guitar and personal preference on specs.
Heres a video of Brian Setzer talking about his Gretsch.
