Steve Vai Jem Competition

(Video below - www.guitarheroesgear.com)

Steve Vai has designed countless Jems with Ibanez, in my opinion the White Jem based on EVO is the best design, the one I would buy. But Steve being Steve is never satisfied, he wants a Jem that even his outrageous imagination cannot come up with, so he's asking the people of the world.

Steve Vai opens his Jem Competition where everyone can design their own Jem, Steve himself will pick the best design and 2 copies of the guitar will be made at Ibanez Custom Shop, one for the winner and one for Steve. I wonder what people will come up with. Rules are set out on the website, it's not a Jem without the monkey grip!

All submissions must be received by Sunday, June 6th, 2010 at 6pm PDT (Pacific Daylight Time) – this is dependent upon time zone so be sure to check what time coincides with your area. LATE ENTRIES WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED. Dates may be subject to change, check the website for updates. Heres the link http://www.ibanez.co.jp/JEMUV/contest.html

Phil X Studio Gear Tour Part I The Guitars

(Video below - www.guitarheroesgear.com)

Phil X has played and reviewed so many vintage and valuable guitars with frettedamericana that he definitely knows his stuff when it comes to gear and tone. The TONEMASTER baby! If you've never heard of Phil X then you've probably never searched youtube for vintage guitar reviews. Phil X rocks all the vintage guitars at frettedamericana and gives his take on the tone and feel. His bands The Drills and Powder play the circuit in LA, though not yet reached superstar status, I don't know why, I love the guy. It will be a sad day if he stops making those youtube videos with frettedamericana.

Anyway, Phil X recently done a video talking us through his personal gear, having played so many vintage guitars and getting a taste for TONE, what does he use? Theres another video on his amps aswell, but for now enjoy the Phil X Show - Studio Gear Tour Part I The guitars

Pink Floyd's Guy Pratt and his Fender Jazz Bass

(Video below - www.guitarheroesgear.com)

Guy Pratt bass player for Pink Floyd talks about his  vintage Fender Jazz Bass given to him  David Gilmour as a wedding present. The bass was originally David Gilmore's own personal vintage Fender Jazz Bass guitar and Guy Pratt drooled over it constantly while touring with David. Now it's his, nice present if you got the right friends.

The Fender Jazz bass is a classic, the first bass that Leo Fender designed to get the bass electrified, and amazingly like his other designs (Telecaster and Stratocaster) he got it spot on first time. The Fender Jazz bass still remains one of the most user friendly and best sounding bassist of all time.

Heres a couple of videos, first Guy Pratt telling his story of how he acquired his Fender Jazz bass, and the second is an interview with Fender Bassman Jay Piccirillo talking about Leo Fenders original ideas and comparisons with the Fender P bass.
